THE RSU ARTS & CRAFTS ASSOCIATION

Earth without “art” is Eh…

Do you remember the first time you painted over the borders in a coloring book? When you created that clay dinosaur that looked like a big fluffy cloud with legs? Or built a birdhouse meant for an owl, but a family of sparrows moved in?

Perhaps they were not the most artistic masterpieces, but as artist Bob Ross once said:

“We don't make mistakes, just happy little accidents. Talent is a pursued interest. Anything that you're willing to practice, you can do”

We are a community representing international and Latvian students from all walks of life. Established in 2025 in joint effort with Student Services and RSU students, we are here to share our knowledge and love for making unique art pieces and crafts. You don’t need to know how to paint - just have the willingness to take up a brush, cutters, files and let your hands do the rest.

Art’s and crafts invite us to slow down. In a world filled with fast-paced entertainment, the careful and mindful creation of something new can be a meditative process. Every brushstroke and every tiny addition brings your creative world to reality. Go beyond the coloring lines — let your creativity set the boundaries.

Events we offer:

Miniature painting - The first workshop idea that started all of this society. Small scale figurines that you can paint as you wish. Perhaps you have a favorite character from an epic fantasy adventure, which still leaves you wondering - how did the character's story really end? Where did their journeys take them? How did their lives unfold? Paint it as you see them fit, or, assemble different parts of miniatures together to create something new. Teaches patience, precision and attention to details.

Painting & drawing - In this workshop, you can try different styles: sketching with pencil, experimenting with watercolors, or painting bold acrylics. We use plain paper or you can immediately try a canvas. This workshop gives you the space to explore both structure and spontaneity. Try sketching the details of everyday life, experiment with playful colors, or let your hand move freely without a plan.Whether your style is careful realism or wild imagination, the page will always welcome more.

Textile painting - In this workshop, you’ll learn how to use textile paints and stencils (if you like), mix colors, and bring fabric to life. It’s not only sustainable (why buy new when you can renew?), but also a way to wear your creativity proudly. From minimalistic designs to bright, abstract splashes — textile art makes every piece a memorabilia to treasure even after university is done.

Other events are not limited to these, but can also include calligraphy, bracelet making, mosaic building, knitting, felting, crocheting and many more. We also focus on seasonal activities - Halloween, Christmas, Latvian Summer solstice - creating decorations.
