On 2 September 2024, the Worldwide event took place in Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Inspiration Park from 17:00 to 19:00, to showcase the University's vibrant student life beyond the classroom. This year’s event saw the participation of 32 societies, including 12 national societies, 10 academic societies, 5 sports societies, 3 social societies, as well as the International Student Association (ISA) and the Student Union (Studējošo pašpārvalde, SP).

Worldwide has always been a highlight for RSU students, offering interactive and educational games, hands-on activities, and a chance to taste a variety of cuisines from across the globe. The sports teams added to the excitement by setting up mini tournaments, while music from different cultures provided a lively soundtrack for dancing and socialising throughout the event.

More than 150 students attended this year, many of them first-years eager to explore what RSU has to offer in terms of student life. The event is the perfect opportunity to discover the range of academic societies, learn about their plans for the upcoming year, and engage in practical workshops. For medical students, it’s a chance to sample different specialties, and perhaps even join the board of an academic society and gain valuable experience to enhance their CVs.

A sense of belonging is another key element of Worldwide. National societies create a welcoming space for students to connect with fellow nationals, but also encourage exploring the diverse cultures represented on campus.

'It’s always a homely feeling finding your national societies who bring fellow students together to build a mini-community within RSU,' said one returning participant. The event fosters an inclusive atmosphere, where students of all backgrounds can explore their interests, whether in the medical field or extracurricular activities.

Reflecting on her own experience, organiser Sujeeka Sivapalan shared how Worldwide changed her RSU journey: 'I came to RSU during the COVID years and didn’t get to enjoy Worldwide. But once I attended the event in 2022, I was motivated to join the Asian Society and ISA as a board member. It showed me the endless opportunities RSU has to offer.'

Each year, the event continues to grow, with societies putting in their utmost effort to welcome students and showcase their enthusiasm. As one participant put it, 'Worldwide is for everyone, whether you’re in your first or final year. It’s an event not to be missed!'
